Malian military secures safe passage for 940 supply trucks to Bamako
A major logistics operation led by the Malian army successfully brought 940 civilian supply trucks to Bamako between June 23 and June 29. The mission focused on securing the vital transport corridor spanning from Kayes through Sandaré and Diéma to the capital.
The operation initially began with the protection of 540 trucks traveling between Kayes and Sandaré. As the convoy progressed, it was joined by a military reinforcement unit from Diéma. Along the route, several vehicles that had been stranded due to various issues were integrated into the group, bringing the total number of escorted trucks to 940 for the final journey into Bamako.
A successful mission for national supply
The entire fleet reached the capital without any major security incidents, despite the challenges of traversing multiple towns along this high-traffic axis. This military intervention comes at a critical time, as security conditions on several major roads have become increasingly precarious, contributing to recent difficulties in maintaining consistent fuel levels in Bamako.
The Kayes-Bamako route remains a cornerstone of the nation’s economy. This strategic corridor links the capital to western Mali and serves as a primary gateway for goods arriving from Senegal and Mauritania. The safe passage of these 940 trucks ensures the continued delivery of essential items, including petroleum products, food supplies, industrial equipment, and various commercial goods destined for local markets.
