After intense negotiations, Toulouse and Sunderland have finalized a deal for the transfer of Dayann Methalie to the Premier League. The 20-year-old left-back is set to undergo his medical examination with the English club shortly.

French football is losing another rising star to the Premier League. After weeks of back-and-forth, Toulouse and Sunderland have agreed on the transfer of Dayann Methalie, a left-back who will join the Black Cats this summer.

Initially, Toulouse had rejected an offer around €33 million for their young defender earlier in the week. However, a revised proposal of approximately €30 million—including bonuses—has now been accepted by the Ligue 1 club. The agreement was facilitated by a revised bonus structure and a higher fixed transfer fee.

The 20-year-old defender, who has also agreed to a five-year contract with Sunderland, is preparing for his medical in England this weekend.

Methalie: A French prospect ready for the next level

As anticipated in late July, Methalie had already reached a personal agreement with Sunderland. A product of Toulouse’s youth academy, the young defender has already earned four caps for the French Under-21 team and delivered a standout season with the Violets.

The transfer fee of around €30 million marks another significant departure for Toulouse, following the £28 million sale of Emerson to Ipswich Town last summer.

Primarily deployed as a left wing-back, Methalie made 30 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing two goals and two assists in Ligue 1. Despite interest from multiple European clubs, the young Frenchman chose Sunderland’s ambitious project under manager Régis Le Bris, who is building an attacking-focused team.
