Algeria and Niger deepen energy ties with new oil exploration project

The renewed momentum in Algerian-Nigerien relations stems from high-level discussions between President Tebboune and Niger’s transitional leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, who have both prioritized transforming political goodwill into actionable projects. This vision was further solidified during the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien Joint High Commission for Cooperation, held in Niamey on March 23–24, 2026.

Sonatrach’s expanding footprint in Niger

According to industry insights, Sonatrach has outlined plans to drill four additional exploration wells in northern Niger over the next two years.
