Cameroon unveils roadmap to modernise road, rail and logistics infrastructure
Cameroon is rolling out a comprehensive set of measures to upgrade its road, rail, urban and airport networks, driven by a strong ambition for development and enhanced competitiveness.
To this end, a workshop was held on 24 and 25 June 2026 to present the feasibility studies for establishing a Land Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTT) and for developing the National Logistics Strategy (SLN) along with a 2035 action plan.
The sessions brought together Mbamome Nkendong Divine, director of road transport (DTR), Claude Misse Ntone, director of rail transport (DTF), a team from consultants Idea Consult International/TRT Studi Cameroun, and representatives from various partner administrations and financial backers including the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
In his opening remarks, the DTR urged participants to pay close attention to the outcomes of these preliminary studies, as the findings are expected to guide the effective continuation of the projects. During the discussions, the consultants delivered comprehensive presentations on the conclusions of the work carried out.
The studies indicate that the ARTT should be based in Yaoundé, initially focusing on road transport, with a gradual expansion of its mandate. Setting up this agency would require an initial investment of about 260 million CFA francs, covering the institutional framework, office fit-out and equipment, and the acquisition of necessary computer hardware.
The study on Cameroon’s National Logistics Strategy (SLN) analyses the key features of the country’s logistics system, outlining strategic issues, challenges and objectives. It proposes an eight-axis action plan dominated by rail investments estimated at 40 billion euros, along with the creation of a National Logistics Council to coordinate interministerial actions and provide arbitration.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the director of road transport praised the quality of contributions and the richness of exchanges. He called on all stakeholders to maintain their commitment in order to successfully carry out the next stages of these transformational projects for the future of Cameroon’s land transport sector.
