The Spanish football league has officially postponed the highly anticipated clash between Celta Vigo and Osasuna, originally scheduled for Sunday evening at 9:30 PM during the league’s opening weekend.
Pitch inspections conducted throughout Wednesday revealed severe fungal damage to the Balaídos stadium turf, prompting the league to act swiftly. The rescheduled fixture is now set for Thursday, August 27, at 8:30 PM.
League officials confirmed the decision follows a thorough assessment of the playing surface, undertaken in close collaboration with both clubs and the Spanish Football Federation. Since mid-last season, LaLiga has operated with full autonomy over match scheduling, eliminating the need for further approvals.
This postponement marks the fourth match pushed back from the opening day, which kicks off this Saturday. Previously announced delays include Valencia versus Real Betis, Real Madrid against Real Sociedad, and Barcelona’s fixture against Athletic Bilbao.
