Rabat celebrates 65 years of Morocco-vietnam diplomatic ties
Rabat recently hosted a significant commemorative event marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Vietnam. The celebration, held by the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom, in collaboration with the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, underscored the enduring bond between the two nations.
A highlight of the day was the inauguration of a compelling exhibition titled “President Ho Chi Minh – Symbol of Peace and International Friendship.” This display, open until June 26, illuminates the remarkable journey of Vietnam’s national liberation hero, whose actions were consistently guided by ideals of peace, independence, and international cooperation.
Further enriching the anniversary festivities, a seminar was organized in partnership with the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association and the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site, affiliated with Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. This gathering focused on exploring avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation across diplomatic, economic, academic, cultural, and human spheres, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing governance and societal ties between these African and Asian nations.
During the opening remarks, Mustapha El Ktiri, High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, and also President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, emphasized the profound historical and strategic importance of the relationship. He articulated that the celebration symbolized a convergence of two peoples whose historical paths, forged through challenges and driven by a common pursuit of freedom, align in shared values and destiny, a testament to robust African politics and international solidarity.
Mr. El Ktiri recalled significant symbols of their collective memory, including the “Vietnam Gate” inaugurated in Kénitra in 2022. This monument, he noted, mirrors Vietnam’s “Morocco Gate” in Bà Vì, standing as twin structures that bridge continents and generations, symbolizing an unbreakable connection.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Morocco, Le Kim Quy, expressed satisfaction with the tangible and positive evolution of bilateral relations. She highlighted the increased frequency of high-level meetings and visits from both sides in recent years, which she saw as clear indicators of mutual trust and a collective resolve to fortify this strategic partnership.
Economically, the partnership has also seen remarkable growth. The Vietnamese diplomat pointed out that bilateral trade volume notably reached 390 million dollars in 2025, demonstrating a vibrant economic exchange. This positive momentum extends beyond trade to encompass education, cultural and human exchanges, and even decentralized cooperation between local authorities in both countries, fostering deeper societal connections.
The commemorative day also featured the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Library. This new resource, containing works in French, English, and Arabic, was a generous donation from the Vietnamese leader’s Memorial Site to the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, further cementing cultural and academic bonds.
