Taxawu Sénégal’s bold move against Diomaye-Sonko at founding congress

Taxawu Sénégal held its foundational congress this past Sunday, drawing key figures from Senegal’s opposition landscape. The event brought together prominent political actors including Aïssata Tall Sall, Bamba Fall, Oumar Sarr from the Front pour la Démocratie et la République (FDR), Me Elhadj Diouf, Alioune Ndoye of the Socialist Party, Abdoulaye Wilanne, and Doudou Wade. This gathering underscored a clear intent to unite opposition forces against the current administration.

The congress served as a platform for Khalifa Sall, President of Taxawu Sénégal and former Mayor of Dakar, to deliver a scathing critique of the ruling duo—President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. In his address, he accused the government of prioritizing personal gain over the welfare of ordinary Senegalese citizens, painting a stark picture of systemic mismanagement and hidden agendas.

With unfiltered candor, Khalifa Sall condemned what he described as a web of corruption and clandestine dealings at the highest levels of the state. « We know they are deeply entangled in Baara Yeego, » he declared, referring to a colloquial term for murky, self-serving arrangements. His words resonated as a rallying cry for an opposition determined to escalate its resistance.

The former Dakar mayor also pledged a united and relentless political response. « An informed and consolidated opposition will confront them head-on to reclaim power, because the Senegalese people have endured enough, » he asserted. His speech laid bare the opposition’s strategy to consolidate forces ahead of upcoming electoral battles, signaling a high-stakes showdown in Senegal’s political arena.
