Rabat hosts crucial talks to elevate Morocco-Kuwait air cooperation
In a significant move to enhance bilateral relations, Abdessamad Kayouh, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, held discussions on Tuesday in Rabat with Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwaiti Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between Morocco and Kuwait within the vital domain of air navigation.
Convening on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly session of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted in Morocco, both delegations thoroughly reviewed strategies to bolster the safety and security of air navigation. They further explored avenues for developing comprehensive bilateral cooperation, aiming to achieve mutual growth in the aviation sector.
Minister Kayouh emphasized the excellent historical ties binding the two nations, noting that the discussions provided an opportune moment to reaffirm this strong bond. He confirmed that a key agenda item was the reactivation of the direct air route connecting Kuwait and Casablanca. Kayouh assured that Royal Air Maroc is fully committed to re-launching this service promptly, following the integration of its new generation of long-haul aircraft into its fleet.
On his part, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah highlighted that the talks also addressed the anticipated increase in air traffic between Kuwait and Morocco. This surge is particularly expected in the lead-up to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the Kingdom will co-host with Spain and Portugal. The objective is to effectively manage the projected rise in tourist numbers, benefiting both Morocco and the wider Gulf region.
The General Assembly session concluded with significant outcomes, including the election of members for the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term. This encompassed the General Assembly, the Executive Council, and various technical committees. Additionally, Khalid Cherkaoui was appointed as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, marking a new chapter in its leadership.
