Mauritania seeks Gabon’s support for oif leadership bid
Libreville recently hosted a significant diplomatic engagement as Messouda Bahama Mohamed Laghdaf, Mauritania’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, arrived with an official message from His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. On Monday, June 22, Minister Laghdaf met with Gabon’s Head of State, Oligui Nguema, to formally present Mauritania’s bid for the Secretary-General position of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
The Mauritanian OIF candidacy, spearheaded by Dr. Koumba BA, outlines a strategic vision built on three fundamental pillars: coherence, balance, and direct utility for all member states. The discussions between Minister Laghdaf and President Nguema highlighted the exceptional and seamless diplomatic ties binding Libreville and Nouakchott. During their exchange, the Special Envoy underscored Mauritania’s steadfast commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Gabon, a relationship historically rooted in solidarity, mutual respect, and continuous dialogue on matters of shared interest.
