Africa CDC welcomes Paris pledge on no travel restrictions after DRC Ebola case
The director general of Africa CDC, Jean Kaseya, stated that he held a ‘constructive’ discussion with France’s health minister, Stéphanie Rist, following the confirmation of an imported case of Ebola virus disease (Bundibugyo strain) on French soil.
Kaseya welcomed the guarantee from Paris that no travel restrictions would be imposed in response to this case.
The French embassy in Kinshasa disclosed on June 25 that the patient is a Congolese humanitarian doctor who had been involved in the Ebola response in Ituri for the NGO ALIMA. He tested positive after arriving in France, where he normally resides. This marks the first confirmed case on French territory.
Kaseya affirmed that Africa CDC, the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, along with French and Congolese authorities, remain fully committed to containing the outbreak, protecting communities, and advancing a coordinated response at both continental and global levels.
