Wadagni streamlines governance in Bénin, dissolving key state agencies
President Romuald Wadagni has launched a significant institutional offensive, initiating a profound reorganization of Bénin’s public administration. This move is marked by the dissolution of several strategic agencies inherited from the previous administration of Patrice Talon.

This wave of dissolutions, significantly impacting Bénin’s culture and tourism sectors, reflects a broader commitment to rationalizing state structures. It signals the beginning of a clear strategy to redefine governmental action and enhance governance in Africa.
Upon assuming the highest office, the new occupant of the Marina Palace immediately moved to redefine the mechanisms for implementing public policy by eliminating several agencies. Among the entities now dissolved are the Agency for the Development of Arts and Culture (Adac), the Bénin Tourism Agency, and the National Agency for the Promotion of Heritage and Tourism Development (Anpt). The Anpt had previously served as the state’s operational arm, tasked with positioning Bénin as a premier tourist destination.
The overarching ambition behind this extensive administrative overhaul is to curb the fragmentation of resources and optimize national administrative organization. While the presidential decree lays the groundwork for more streamlined governance, the precise modalities for transferring the responsibilities of these defunct agencies, as well as the future of their respective personnel, await further clarification from the relevant authorities.
By undertaking this decisive political action within the initial months of his term, Romuald Wadagni sets the tone for his leadership, demonstrating a firm resolve to rationalize the state apparatus and reshape African politics within Bénin.
