Madagascar’s 66th independence: Gabon’s VP represents Oligui Nguema in Antananarivo
On behalf of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Vice President of the Government Hermann Immongault attended the celebrations marking the 66th anniversary of Madagascar’s independence on June 26 in Antananarivo. Alongside other heads of delegations, Immongault watched the military parade at Mahamasina Stadium, an event that highlighted the commitment, patriotism, and modernisation of the armed forces. This year’s commemoration was held under the theme “reform for the development of Madagascar.”
Immongault’s presence underscores the strong ties between the populations of Gabon and Madagascar. It also signals the determination of both Libreville and Antananarivo to further strengthen their exchanges. This follows the visit to Libreville from June 5 to 7 by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, president of the Malagasy Refoundation. The highlight of that trip was a one-on-one meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de Mer. After the meeting, Randrianirina expressed his desire to draw inspiration from the way the transition in Gabon is being managed, while praising the achievements made during that period.
By sending the coordinator of government action to these festivities, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema reaffirms the strategic importance Gabon places on closer relations with the Great Island. The increase in high-level exchanges between the two countries is opening a new era of cooperation, promising significant political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic development.
