Benin welcomes 895 new police and forestry officers into service
The military training grounds of Bèmbèrèkè were the site of a momentous occasion this Thursday, June 25, 2026. During a formal ceremony, 895 new recruits from both the Republican Police and the Water, Forests, and Hunting corps officially entered active service.
A solemn commitment to the nation
In the presence of high-ranking officials, moved parents, and relatives, these new members of the security forces were presented to the national flag. The cohort includes the 2024 and 2025 classes of the forestry department, alongside the 2025 class of the Republican Police.
This event signifies the successful completion of their initial military training. It marks the beginning of their dedicated mission to uphold public safety and protect the environmental resources of Bénin.
High-level military and government presence
The ceremony was presided over by the ministers responsible for National Defense and Internal Security. The importance of the event was further highlighted by the attendance of the Chief of General Staff of the Bénin Armed Forces and the Director General of the Republican Police.
Lieutenant-Colonel Armand Assogbaga, commander of the training center, delivered a welcoming address emphasizing the transformation these recruits have undergone. He noted that this ritual represents a final break from civilian life, requiring a commitment to strict discipline, bravery, and unwavering patriotism.
Symbolic induction into the security forces
The highlight of the proceedings was the presentation of the national colors, a symbolic act that officially integrates these young men and women into the defense and security family. This was followed by the traditional awarding of the fourragère.
This military distinction recognizes months of rigorous physical and tactical preparation. These new agents are now prepared to serve as guardians of the law and protectors against contemporary security and environmental challenges facing the country.
