Yan couto set for move to como, bundesliga side open to departure

The Borussia Dortmund hierarchy appears ready to part ways with Brazilian right-back Yan Couto this summer transfer window, with a potential destination now in sight.

After protracted discussions, the Bundesliga giants have reached an understanding with Serie A outfit Como 1907 regarding a temporary solution involving the 24-year-old international.

While Dortmund will not finalize a permanent sale, a preliminary agreement for a loan arrangement has been established. The next step involves incorporating a future purchase option into this deal.

Couto initially joined Dortmund on loan from Manchester City in 2024, with the club subsequently exercising a purchase obligation in the summer of 2025. The total expenditure for his permanent transfer reached €25 million, despite limited first-team opportunities during his initial campaign. The Brazilian often found himself on the substitutes’ bench and struggled to secure consistent playing time under the previous management structure.

Como emerges as frontrunner for Couto’s services

During the recently concluded season, Couto continued to feature sporadically under head coach Niko Kovač. The final two months of the campaign proved particularly challenging, with the defender accumulating just twelve minutes of game time between mid-March and mid-May.

The Como-based club has positioned itself as a serious contender for Couto’s signature, though preliminary interest appeared to wane in early July. Reports at the time suggested Como was exploring alternative right-back options before reconsidering the Brazilian’s potential arrival.

Under the guidance of manager Cesc Fàbregas, Como secured a fourth-place finish in Serie A last season. The Spanish tactician has expressed satisfaction with the possibility of integrating Couto into his squad, particularly given the defender’s eligibility to compete in the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.

Couto’s contract with Dortmund extends through 2030, but the club’s willingness to facilitate his departure indicates a shift in strategy regarding the player’s future.
