United Kingdom aims to double trade with Morocco through new strategic alliance

The official visit to Rabat by Chris Bryant, the British Minister of State for International Trade, has marked a significant turning point in the diplomatic and economic ties between the United Kingdom and Morocco. This engagement signals a move toward a deeper strategic partnership between the two nations.

During his stay, Chris Bryant emphasized that the UK views Morocco as a prime destination for investment and growth. The British government has set an ambitious target to double the current volume of bilateral trade over the next five to seven years.

Following high-level discussions with Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Chris Bryant noted that trade between the two countries currently stands at approximately £4.5 billion. He expressed a clear desire to see this figure reach new heights in the near future.

A key area of cooperation involves the preparation for major international athletic competitions. The UK is eager to support Morocco in ensuring the success of the 2030 World Cup. To facilitate this, the Minister was accompanied by a delegation of roughly 50 British firms specializing in the management and logistics of large-scale global sporting events. This mission coincided with the Morocco-UK Business Forum held on June 2 and 3, 2026.

Furthermore, the two kingdoms are scheduled to convene the fourth session of the Morocco-UK Association Council to further refine their collaborative framework.
