Rabat inaugurates permanent headquarters of the african prosecutors association

Hicham Balaoui, president of the Public Prosecution Office, chaired the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday in Rabat of the permanent headquarters of the African Prosecutors Association.

Morocco’s King’s attorney general at the Court of Cassation was joined by Renson Ingonga, the Kenyan president of the African Prosecutors Association. Balaoui also serves as the association’s secretary-general.

During the event, both officials signed the agreement finalising the transfer of the association’s headquarters from the Republic of Mozambique to the Kingdom of Morocco.

Attendees universally recognised the Kingdom’s prominent standing on the African continent under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI, as well as “the trust placed in its judicial institutions by various African professional and legal bodies.”

Among those present were Mohamed Abdennabaoui, deputy president of the Supreme Council of Judicial Power, Abdelatif Amrani, General Treasurer of the Kingdom, and several other judicial officials.

The association noted that this meeting reflects Morocco’s ongoing commitment to strengthening African judicial cooperation and enhancing coordination mechanisms among judicial institutions across African countries.

In Rabat, members of the Executive Committee adopted the association’s work agenda, reviewed proposed amendments to its statutes, and discussed member annual subscription fees.

In his opening address, Hicham Balaoui highlighted “the importance of strengthening cooperation between various police services and African prosecution offices, as well as exchanging experiences and best practices in combating different forms of crime, especially transnational organised crime, corruption, human trafficking, and cybercrime.”

In closing, participants praised the leading role of the African Prosecutors Association in strengthening professional cooperation ties among its members. They stressed the importance of this structure as an institutional framework for dialogue, coordination, and joint action to tackle criminal justice challenges on the continent.

With the establishment of the African Prosecutors Association’s permanent seat in Rabat, Morocco is consolidating its role in continental judicial cooperation. This inauguration also gives new institutional reach to exchanges between African prosecution offices, in a context marked by rising transnational crime.
