N’Djamena summit urges action on water challenges in africa
The African Water Forum, themed “From Vision to Action”, concluded in N’Djamena on July 16, 2026, following two days of intensive discussions on Africa’s pressing water access and sustainable resource management challenges. The event, jointly hosted by the Chadian government and the World Bank Group, brought together African leaders, technical and financial partners, and sector experts to address critical hydrological issues.
Turning promises into tangible progress
Speaking on behalf of the World Bank Group, Farouk Mollah Banna emphasized the urgency of converting forum commitments into measurable outcomes for communities across the continent.
« Achieving broader, more reliable, and equitable access to water, food security, and environmental sustainability hinges on how rigorously and thoughtfully the pledges made here are implemented on the ground, » he stated.
Lake Chad’s crisis takes center stage
The Chadian Prime Minister, Allah Maye Halina, placed the Lake Chad Basin at the forefront of Africa’s priority agenda, stressing that its preservation transcends national borders and is vital for regional peace, development, and food security.
« Safeguarding the Lake Chad Basin is not just an environmental imperative—it is a matter of survival for over 30 million people. The lake’s fate impacts food security, economic stability, and peace across the continent. The time has come to elevate its protection to the top of Africa’s and the world’s priorities, » he declared.
The forum’s organizers remain hopeful that the recommendations adopted during the event will swiftly transition into actionable initiatives, directly benefiting African populations in need of sustainable water solutions.
