Mustapha Ngouana condemns Cameroon’s pattern of broken promises
In his appearance on the “Right of Reply” debate show, the lawyer highlighted what he describes as the Cameroonian government’s chronic failure to honor its commitments. Ngouana emphasized that this pattern has become a defining feature of national governance.
“The President of Cameroon has repeatedly made decisions whose deadlines have never been met,” Ngouana stated. “Take the Africa Cup of Nations: the President promised it would take place on schedule, but it didn’t. For the 50th anniversary of reunification, he had 50 years to prepare, but celebrations were delayed until 2014—three years after the original deadline.”
The discussion centered on the theme of “Broken Trust: Public Opinion vs. Unfulfilled Promises,” a topic that Ngouana used to illustrate what he calls “systematic governance failures.”
“I believe the President’s governance is characterized by persistent missteps,” he argued. “Our country is at a standstill. While some describe it as poor governance, I would argue it’s not even that—it’s a complete absence of governance. Cameroon is operating on autopilot.”
