Morocco restates dedication to un peacekeeping efforts
Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, welcomed UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix in Rabat on Monday for the latter’s second official visit to the Kingdom.

Their talks focused on the significant role and the substantial, exemplary contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Morocco’s involvement stems from a strategic royal vision rooted in a longstanding commitment to UN peacekeeping that dates back to 1960.

Currently ranked ninth among the top troop-contributing nations to UN peacekeeping missions, Morocco also chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for 2026 and serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping matters. This reflects the confidence the international community places in Morocco regarding global peace and security issues.

Lacroix’s visit comes at a time when the UN Secretary-General has launched major reform initiatives, including the ‘UN 80’ project to simplify and streamline the UN Secretariat, as well as a comprehensive strategic review of all peacekeeping operations and the broader international peace and security architecture. The goal is to restore the primacy of political approaches in conflict management.
