Mali’s bold strides: mining, security and diplomacy fuel national revival

The Republic of Mali is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, driven by a resolute commitment to national sovereignty and homegrown development. Economic sovereignty as the engine of progress

Mining has emerged as the cornerstone of this transformation. With the rallying cry “Let gold shine for Malians”, the government has enacted a groundbreaking mining code granting the state and domestic investors a 35% stake in all mining ventures. This bold policy has already yielded tangible results: fiscal recovery totaling 760 billion West African CFA francs has been recorded, and by 2026, 18.4 billion francs will be redistributed to 819 local governments to fund critical health and education infrastructure.

The nation is also expanding its economic horizons by developing lithium deposits in Goulamina and Bougouni, positioning Mali as a future leader in Africa’s lithium production.

Security and logistics: the bedrock of stability

National progress is underpinned by a robust security framework. The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa), supported by allied partners, have significantly bolstered their operational capacity. A landmark event occurred on July 10, 2026, when a military-escorted convoy of over 900 fuel tankers arrived safely in Bamako, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply for the nation.

Concurrently, large-scale air-land operations—particularly in the Anéfis region—have successfully dismantled terrorist networks, eliminating over a hundred militants and securing vital supply routes.

Rebuilding diplomatic alliances for a stronger future

Mali’s regional engagement is gaining renewed momentum. The reopening of Algerian airspace to commercial flights and the reinstatement of Mali’s ambassador to Algiers signal a significant leap forward in strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering cross-border cooperation.
