Felix Tshisekedi Gets Greenlight for Third Term as Congolese President

Félix Tshisekedi, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has received the green light to run for a third term in office.

The Congolese Constitutional Court made this ruling after a lengthy debate over the constitutionality of the law allowing Tshisekedi to seek re-election.

Tshisekedi, who took office in 2019, had initially been barred from seeking a third term due to the constitution’s two-term limit. However, a new law passed in 2022 removed this restriction.
