The political landscape in Sénégal has been stirred by a significant resignation within the FDCUIC, as Mor Tallah Gueye stepped down from his role as President of the Board of Directors. His decision, rooted in unwavering loyalty to Ousmane Sonko, marks another departure from the state apparatus by cadres aligned with the Pastef movement.

Unwavering principles over political convenience

In an official statement, Mor Tallah Gueye made his stance clear: “I resign from my position as PCA of the FDCUIC to remain faithful to the ideals that have driven our collective struggle.” He emphasized the Pastef project’s commitment to sovereignty, systemic reform, and genuine change, values he insists must not be compromised. “We believed in a Sénégal free from the shackles of the old system, and it is this vision that guided our actions,” he explained.

The resignation comes at a critical juncture, as Ousmane Sonko, a central figure in this movement, has been excluded from the executive branch. Mor Tallah Gueye condemned the resurgence of practices he and his peers had long opposed, declaring, “I refuse to be complicit in this regression.” His departure underscores a deeper ideological divide within Pastef, where some cadres are aligning with the ruling majority while others, like him, remain steadfast in their opposition.

Signs of a growing internal fracture

Mor Tallah Gueye’s exit is not an isolated incident. Earlier, another prominent figure—the coordinator of Jeunesse patriotique du Sénégal in Touba—had also resigned from a presidential advisory role, citing similar principles. These departures, though few, highlight the cracks forming within the movement as loyalty to Sonko clashes with the pressures of political realignment.

For Mor Tallah Gueye, the resignation symbolizes more than a personal sacrifice. “True commitment is not measured by titles or positions but by the courage to stand by one’s convictions,” he asserted. His decision sends a strong message: the fight for a just and sovereign Sénégal continues, regardless of institutional roles.
