The second vice president of Cameroon’s Social Democratic Front (SDF) has been appointed to lead the party’s new National Election Preparation Commission.
The move comes as municipal and legislative elections, scheduled for 2027, approach. The SDF, a leading opposition party, is positioning itself to compete effectively by strengthening its grassroots structures and ensuring transparent electoral processes.
During its June 13 meeting in Bamenda, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) established the commission to streamline preparations ahead of the polls. The goal is to enhance the party’s operational efficiency while maintaining transparency and proactivity throughout the campaign period.
Groundwork for transparent elections
Economist and scholar Louis Marie Kakdeu has been named director of the SDF’s National Election Preparation Commission. The appointment was made during the Bamenda NEC meeting and reflects the party’s commitment to revitalizing its presence in key electoral areas.
Kakdeu’s mandate includes identifying and recruiting competitive candidates in underserved constituencies while strengthening the party’s foundational structures in its traditional strongholds. His role also involves structuring the campaign strategy for the upcoming legislative and municipal elections.
Kakdeu brings extensive experience to the position, having previously served as director of Joshua Osih’s presidential campaign in October 2025. As an academic specializing in budgetary, economic, and fiscal matters, he emphasizes the need for systematic outreach and increased deployment of election monitors to ensure fairness at polling stations.
This appointment underscores the SDF’s determination to rebuild its political presence after recent electoral setbacks, signaling a strategic shift toward grassroots mobilization and transparent governance.
