Cameroon senate president demands tougher action against sexual violence and feminicides

During the opening of the second ordinary session of the Senate this Tuesday in Yaoundé, the president of the upper house, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, urged the Cameroonian government to intensify the fight against sexual violence targeting children and feminicides, which he considers increasingly alarming.

The Senate president and Lamido of Rey Bouba, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, made a solemn appeal to the government for stronger measures against sexual violence aimed at children as well as feminicides in Cameroon.

Speaking at the opening of the second ordinary session of the Senate in Yaoundé, in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the president of the National Assembly, and several government members, he condemned acts that seriously undermine the dignity, integrity, and lives of victims.

Sexual abuse against women and children, as well as acts of feminicide, must be fought with determination,” he declared, calling on the authorities to put an end to such violence.

This stance comes at a time of deep national emotion following the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The case, which sparked protests and widespread outrage, reignites the debate on child protection and the need to strengthen measures for preventing and punishing gender-based violence.
