Burkina Faso pilgrims return from hadj 2026 with prayers for peace
The first group of Burkinabè pilgrims to complete the Hadj 2026 safely touched down in Ouagadougou on June 2, 2026. 342 faithful disembarked at the international airport, greeted by jubilant families and government officials. This historic return flight signaled the official start of the mass repatriation of pilgrims after weeks of spiritual devotion in the holy sites of Islam.
The returning pilgrims had fulfilled the fifth pillar of Islam, their faces beaming with the joy of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Among them was Hadja Karidja Karambiri/Koné, who described her journey with visible emotion. “The journey to Mecca was beyond anything I imagined. This was my first time, and I am truly fulfilled. Everything went perfectly… We prayed fervently for the restoration of peace and social harmony across Burkina Faso,” she shared upon arrival.
A government representative, Saïdou Sankara, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, confirmed the smooth execution of this year’s pilgrimage. “We are delighted to welcome our brothers and sisters back in good health after completing their sacred duty,” he stated. “On behalf of the State Minister, we extend our warmest congratulations and wish that this spiritual journey deepens their faith. May all prayers offered in Mecca be answered—for their well-being, their families, and the nation as a whole.”

The Fédération des Associations Islamiques du Burkina (FAIB), represented by El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, praised the flawless organization of the pilgrimage. In a statement, he commended the steering committee’s efforts and expressed optimism for the continued safe return of all Burkinabè pilgrims in the coming days.
The airlift operations are set to continue uninterrupted until every pilgrim is safely back home, with authorities and organizers closely monitoring each phase of the repatriation process.
