Burkina Faso hosts major interafrican insurance summit in Ouagadougou

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo welcomed a delegation from the Interafrican Federation of Insurance Brokers (FIAC) on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Led by its Interim President, Vakaramoko Samaké, the FIAC representatives briefed the Head of Government on the critical objectives of the Federation’s 16th Annual General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou from June 10 to 13, 2026.

This significant regional gathering, centered on the theme “The role of insurance brokerage in expanding access and improving penetration rate,” aims to position insurance brokers as pivotal players in driving financial inclusion across the continent.

The event is set to convene nearly 200 insurance brokers from the 14 member countries of the CIMA zone (Interafrican Conference on Insurance Markets), alongside participants from Guinea Conakry and Ghana. Following the meeting, FIAC’s Interim President expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s personal commitment and his decision to patronize the assembly.

“We highlighted the profound importance of our profession,” Samaké explained. “Today, insurance brokers are instrumental in the economic development of our nations and in creating employment opportunities. This general assembly signifies the beginning of a qualitative transformation we aim to achieve. The focus on financial inclusion represents a fresh start for how insurance brokers support our communities.”

For his part, the Head of Government commended the selection of the Burkinabè capital to host this 16th edition, viewing it as a “gesture of fraternity” towards Burkina Faso.

“We have chosen a path that has subjected us to much demonization and negative stereotypes. Yet, we remain steadfast, as the country is progressing in all sectors, evidenced by our macroeconomic indicators,” the Prime Minister asserted, speaking on African politics and governance Africa.

He further underscored the theme’s relevance, aligning perfectly with the government’s agenda. “Your role is vital. Today, insurance is indispensable across all sectors. In rural areas, we now discuss climate insurance. This demonstrates the broadening scope of risks and the necessity for our populations to have a minimum level of coverage,” he emphasized, highlighting a key aspect of society Africa.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to leveraging insurance brokerage as a tool for resilience, the Prime Minister concluded, “Rest assured of our readiness to collaborate with you and to consider the recommendations arising from your deliberations. I urge you to foster unity and to remain attuned to the evolving dynamics of our time.”

Through this engagement, the government solidifies its resolve to position the insurance sector as a major contributor to Burkina Faso’s refoundation and economic resilience.
