Burkina Faso honors women leaders at Mousso d’Or 2026 ceremony

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – The fourth annual Mousso d’Or awards, held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, celebrated the remarkable contributions of Burkinabè women. This prestigious event recognized women whose dedication, leadership, and achievements are instrumental in driving the nation’s development. Dedicated to showcasing feminine excellence, the ceremony honored numerous women and organizations across diverse sectors.

As the evening concluded, the coveted Mousso d’Or 2026 trophy was presented to Salmata Sawadogo, the Chief Executive Officer of Salmata Commerce Général.

This distinguished award acknowledges her impactful entrepreneurial journey and her unwavering commitment to fostering the economic empowerment of women in Burkina Faso.

The top laureate expressed profound gratitude to the organizers and all who have supported her path. She views this recognition as a powerful incentive to continue her efforts and to inspire more women to embrace their potential and venture into entrepreneurship, strengthening African society.

In other categories, Talato Ouédraogo was honored with the “Pépite d’or” (Golden Nugget) award, while the Wend Guetta association received distinction in the “Association” category. Charlotte Milliogo of the USFA earned recognition in the “Sport” category, Mam Sank in “Restauration,” and Almaty Meria in “Musical Artist.”

Each awardee departed with a prestigious trophy, an elegant sash, and a certificate of commendation. An honorary trophy was also bestowed upon Adja Abibou Sana Ouédraogo, acknowledging her remarkable journey and dedication.

The ceremony additionally featured the presentation of several special awards, notably recognizing the Forces de défense et de sécurité (FDS) and the Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP). These accolades honored their vital contributions to maintaining peace and social cohesion within the nation.

Mohamado Sanfo, the event’s Commissioner General, articulated that the Mousso d’Or awards are designed to spotlight women who achieve excellence in their respective fields. “When a woman is happy, an entire family is happy,” he declared, emphasizing the ripple effect of women’s well-being on society.

He further noted that Mousso d’Or extends its impact through social initiatives supporting vulnerable women. This year, forty widows of fallen FDS members received specialized training and comprehensive support aimed at bolstering their autonomy and fostering self-reliance.

Despite various challenges encountered throughout previous editions, Mohamado Sanfo expressed satisfaction with the event’s progression and its escalating popularity, a testament to the growing interest in women’s empowerment across African society.

We faced difficulties, but our passion propels us forward. This year’s significant mobilization demonstrates the strong interest in promoting women’s roles,” he affirmed.

In total, this fourth edition saw awards presented across sixteen categories, alongside seven special prizes and one honorary trophy. Talato Ouédraogo, winner of the “Pépite d’or” category, lauded the initiative for actively encouraging women to strive for excellence.

We encourage all women who wish to embark on new ventures to do so without hesitation. Today, feminine excellence is not only recognized but actively supported,” she stated, highlighting the positive shift in perceptions and opportunities for women in Burkina Faso.

Through this successful fourth edition, the Mousso d’Or awards powerfully reaffirmed their core mission: to celebrate women who, through their diligent work, unwavering resilience, and profound commitment, contribute daily to the prosperity and advancement of Burkina Faso.
