Bondoukou youth leaders urged to embrace responsible political engagement
In a proactive move to foster civic responsibility among young leaders, the National Youth Council of Côte d’Ivoire (CNJCI) in Bondoukou recently convened a capacity-building workshop. Held on May 23, 2026, at the regional youth affairs office, the event drew participation from community leaders, student representatives, and grassroots activists.
The training session, themed “Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement in a Politically Sensitive Environment:” What Role for Associations?”, aimed to equip young leaders with the tools to promote social cohesion through responsible governance.
Empowering youth for constructive civic participation
Alexis Adjoumani Kouadio, the departmental delegate of the CNJCI in Bondoukou, underscored the critical role of youth organizations in bridging the gap between state institutions and local communities. He emphasized that leaders must embody exemplary conduct, ensuring their actions align with the national interest while fostering trust in public institutions.
Kouadio stressed that youth associations should serve as pillars of civic education, advocating for dialogue, mutual respect, and collective progress. Their collaboration with government agencies, he noted, is essential in cultivating a culture of accountability and transparency among young citizens.
Building resilient associations amid political tensions
Kouacou Désiré, the regional director of the Ministry of Youth, Vocational Integration, and Civic Service in Gontougo, highlighted the need for dynamic youth leaders who can navigate political sensitivities without compromising their neutrality. Effective leadership, he argued, goes beyond holding a title—it requires mobilizing peers, driving impactful initiatives, and prioritizing community development.
The workshop also addressed strategies for preventing political manipulation within youth movements, equipping participants with leadership skills rooted in integrity and collective good.
Regional authorities rally behind youth-led development
Gnaihi Hugues, representing the regional prefect of Gontougo, commended the initiative for positioning youth as catalysts for social stability and progress. He urged attendees to internalize the lessons shared, calling on them to champion peace, civic duty, and sustainable development in their respective communities.
The event featured a series of expert-led sessions, including:
- A deep dive into effective association management led by Jean Pierre Kouassi;
- A firsthand account of grassroots activism from Gla Serge;
- A panel discussion on navigating political pressures, moderated by Pascal Kouamé.
The gathering culminated in the official launch of the CNJCI’s local chapter in Bondoukou, marking a milestone for youth-led governance in the region. Local youth association presidents, student leaders, and civic engagement advocates attended, reinforcing the collective commitment to responsible leadership.
