In Lubumbashi, the Action of Patriots for the Emergence of Congo (APEC) made a significant impact. The political party, led by its moral authority Louis Watum Kabamba and represented by interim president Dominique Unyon Pewu, convened a packed rally at a Gécamines stadium. The event saw widespread new memberships and a clear declaration on the crucial political discussion: constitutional revision, which APEC deems essential for addressing the nation’s security and governance challenges.
An electric atmosphere filled the air during the political gathering in Lubumbashi, marked by the national anthem and a sea of militants draped in party colors. APEC leaders interpreted this substantial public turnout as clear evidence of the party’s deep roots in the copper capital and the population’s endorsement of Louis Watum Kabamba’s vision for a stronger Democratic Republic of Congo.
A high-level delegation from Kinshasa, headed by the honorable Dominique Unyon Pewu, the national interim president, presided over this important political and civic assembly.
Beyond the celebratory mood of new memberships, party officials utilized this platform in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s second-largest city to conduct a thorough assessment of the current institutional framework. For APEC, the prevailing political, economic, and particularly security realities in the DRC necessitate confronting long-standing issues to enhance governance across Africa.
Speakers emphasized that no foundational text can remain static amidst societal changes. Engaging in discussions about constitutional reform is not an act of undermining democracy, but rather a standard and necessary practice in the life of any nation, crucial for adapting to the evolving society in Africa.
Addressing the assembled crowd, APEC’s interim president, Dominique Unyon Pewu, firmly positioned his party, a constituent of Félix Tshisekedi’s Union Sacrée, within the movement for constitutional change. He underscored the principle of national sovereignty, stating: « The current pressing issue in the Democratic Republic of Congo is the constitutional amendment. Can we truly discuss constitutional change in the DRC without APEC’s involvement? We rely on Article 5 of the Constitution, which grants the Congolese people the sovereignty to deliberate and decide on constitutional modifications. If the people consent, who can obstruct us? Therefore, APEC, under the guidance of its moral authority, His Excellency Louis Watum Kabamba, rises to support the proposed constitutional amendment. »
By successfully organizing such a massive rally in a full stadium, Louis Watum Kabamba’s party has not only showcased its significant influence in the Grand Katanga region. It has also cemented its role as a pivotal participant in the national intellectual and political discourse, asserting its commitment to modernizing the state and establishing more effective institutions that align with the aspirations of the Congolese people, contributing to robust African politics and governance Africa.
