Addressing the Senate’s eldest member and all senators, he urged the creation of a robust communal dynamic rooted in responsibility, dignity, and the nation’s higher interests. Talon stressed that teamwork, consensus, and camaraderie must take precedence over divisions to ensure the institution functions effectively.

Championing national unity

Having faced criticism for allegedly undermining national unity during his two presidential terms, Talon now commits to steering this Senate mandate toward strengthening unity, political stability, peace, and democracy in Bénin. He called on his colleagues to actively uphold this shared vision.

Elected as the first president of Bénin’s Senate during a closed-door meeting on August 6, 2026, Talon will lead this historic mandate alongside Louis Vlavonou, elected as vice-president, and Alassane Seidou and Adidjatou Mathys, serving as rapporteur and deputy rapporteur, respectively.
