Algeria and Chad advance trans-Saharan highway infrastructure project
In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Algeria and Chad formalized a new agreement in N’Djamena that streamlines procedures for accelerating infrastructure projects in both nations. The pact focuses on public works and foundational development initiatives, reinforcing commitments made during high-level discussions earlier this year.
According to an official statement from the Algerian Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, this agreement marks a pivotal step toward turning prior commitments into tangible progress. The deal was finalized during a working visit by an Algerian delegation to Chad, where key officials convened to assess implementation strategies.
Trans-Saharan highway project gathers momentum with feasibility studies
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Unblocking, and Road Maintenance. The ceremony took place amid a coordination meeting in N’Djamena, held on the second day of the Algerian delegation’s visit, which included representatives from Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation in Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and executives from the Cosider Group and the National Public Works Company (SNTP).
Chad’s delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and senior officials, who emphasized the rapid progress in executing bilateral agreements. Since the initial accords were signed in Algiers on April 22, tangible advancements have been made, including joint technical assessments and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway project, which will traverse Chad’s territory.
