African economy builders platform honors nations for public policy excellence

Abidjan witnessed a significant announcement as the pan-African platform, « Les Bâtisseurs de l’Économie Africaine » (African Economy Builders), marked its 20th anniversary. The platform proudly recognized several African nations for their exemplary public policies and outstanding sectoral performances, which have demonstrably propelled the continent’s economic and social advancement.

This special edition of the awards introduced a unique category specifically designed to commend states that have made substantial progress in strategic sectors. These achievements were directly attributed to their highly effective public policies, showcasing strong governance Africa.

An independent jury, composed of distinguished African experts and journalists, meticulously selected the laureates. Their rigorous evaluation process considered several key criteria, including the tangible impact of public policies, overall economic performance, significant sectoral advancements, and each nation’s contribution to broader African integration. This thorough selection process reflects a commitment to transparent and independent African journalism.

The unveiled list of honorees highlights diverse areas of success. The Democratic Republic of Congo was celebrated for its achievements in the mining sector, while Côte d’Ivoire earned distinction for its agricultural strength. Seychelles garnered recognition for its commitment to education, training, and employment initiatives. Morocco received accolades for its advancements in health and pharmaceuticals, Egypt for its robust infrastructure development, and Kenya for its innovative strides in technology, artificial intelligence, and overall innovation.

Further awards acknowledged Algeria’s leading role in the energy sector and South Africa’s strong performance across its industries and services. Tanzania’s thriving tourism and hospitality sector was also honored, alongside Nigeria’s dynamic creative and cultural industries. Morocco secured an additional award for its dedicated efforts in environmental protection and green development.

Special commendations were also presented. Namibia was recognized for its significant progress in gender equality and women’s empowerment, demonstrating progressive society Africa initiatives. Ghana received an award for successfully fostering the return of African diasporas and promoting regional integration. Morocco was further distinguished with the prestigious 20th-anniversary Special Prize from the African Economy Builders, acknowledging the profound national transformations it has achieved. Michel Russel Lohoré, the founding president of the African Economy Builders, articulated the core vision behind this initiative. He explained that its purpose extends beyond simply recognizing businesses and individual economic figures; it aims to spotlight the impactful public policies and national visions that are sustainably driving the transformation of African economies.

Valentin Mbougueng, a journalist and international affairs specialist who presided over the jury, elaborated on the comprehensive assessment methodology. He confirmed that the jury’s deliberations were informed by rankings from international and regional organizations, insights drawn from specialized publications, and the invaluable on-the-ground expertise contributed by its members.

The distinguished award-winning countries will be formally honored at a grand gala evening. This celebratory event, marking the 20th anniversary of the African Economy Builders, is scheduled to take place on June 18 in Abidjan.
