Yaoundé launches drinking water network reconfiguration project
The first stone of the Yaoundé drinking water supply network reconfiguration project was laid on Thursday, June 25, 2026 in Minkoameyos. This project aims to sustainably improve access to clean water for several localities in Cameroon’s capital and its outskirts.
The official ceremony took place at the esplanade of the Yaoundé VII town hall in Minkoameyos. It was chaired by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, in the presence of the Director General of Camwater, Dr. Blaise Moussa, government members, the diplomatic corps, local elected officials, and civil society representatives.
Prescribed by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, this key project seeks to strengthen drinking water supply for the populations of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo, especially those not yet connected to the network or facing frequent interruptions.
Non-residential subscribers, including industries, schools, and hospitals, are also among the main beneficiaries of this initiative.
For the project’s success, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba called on all stakeholders to work hand in hand in perfect synergy to facilitate the execution of work on the ground. For his part, the Camwater DG assured that his institution would spare no effort to support and assist in removing any constraints to the realization of this important project for the benefit of the people of Yaoundé and its surroundings, whose daily needs are constantly growing.
