Togo and Egypt deepen cooperation at Korea-Africa summit
The first-ever Korea-Africa ministerial gathering, held in Seoul on June 1st and 2nd, served as a platform for Togo’s Foreign Minister Robert Dussey to engage in high-level talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty.
During their meeting, the two diplomats reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and explored fresh avenues for partnership. The Egyptian minister praised the robust momentum in ties between Lomé and Cairo, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to deepening its collaboration with Togo.
Strategic sectors for economic collaboration
Key topics included the participation of Egyptian firms in Togo’s development projects. Priority sectors identified for cooperation span infrastructure, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and port facilities.
Technology and digital transformation
The discussions also addressed technology transfer and the strengthening of digital capabilities, deemed vital for accelerating economic growth and modernizing African administrations.
Regional security and peace initiatives
On the diplomatic front, the ministers exchanged views on the situations in the Great Lakes and Sahel regions. Abdelatty commended Togo’s mediation efforts in various African conflict zones, reaffirming Egypt’s support for peace-building initiatives across the continent.
Building a stronger South-South alliance
This meeting underscores the shared resolve of both nations to solidify their strategic partnership and reinforce South-South cooperation amid Africa’s development and security challenges.
