Senegal unveils new cabinet excluding sonko’s party

The Prime Minister of Senegal, Ahmadou Al Amine Mohamed Lô, has unveiled a freshly restructured 30-member cabinet that notably excludes representatives from the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party, despite its majority status in the National Assembly.

This governmental reshuffle comes amid a broader national political realignment, with the integration of both technocratic and political figures into the new team. Hours before the official announcement, former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko confirmed that members of his party would not participate in the new administration.

The Prime Minister outlined a clear mandate for the team, describing it as a “mission-driven government focused on tangible results”. The cabinet blends political and technical expertise while prioritizing youth and women’s representation. He emphasized a shift toward institutional coherence and leveraging national talent, including contributions from the diaspora.

The new lineup retains several key figures from the previous administration, including ministers Cheikh Diba (Economy), Cheikh Niane (Foreign Affairs), Cheikh Tidiane Dièye (Hydraulics and Sanitation), and Moustapha Guirassy (National Education). Other holdovers include Ibrahima Sy (Health), Moussa Bala Fofana (Urban Planning), Yankhoba Diémé (Armed Forces), Déthié Fall (Infrastructure), and Bakary Sarr (Communication).

This restructuring follows the appointment of Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as Prime Minister by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on May 26, succeeding Ousmane Sonko, who was elected President of the National Assembly.
