Ousmane Sonko villa trial postponed to 2026

Tribunal : Nouveau renvoi du procès opposant Ousmane Sonko à Mame Mbaye Niang

The civil lawsuit between former minister Mame Mbaye Niang and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over ownership of a villa in the Keur Gorgui district was adjourned to July 22, 2026, by the third civil chamber of the Dakar tribunal.

Mame Mbaye Niang, a former tourism minister, initiated the civil action against the PASTEF leader to seek annulment of what he claims was a fraudulent transfer of his 264-square-metre property (lot R/17) located in Keur Gorgui. The case was scheduled for hearing this Wednesday, June 10.

The plaintiff is demanding that the property be re-registered in his name so he can collect the 200 million CFA francs in damages and interest that were definitively awarded to him at the conclusion of criminal proceedings before the Supreme Court.

Lawyers for the plaintiff argue that the transfer of the leasehold rights to the villa to the family of the former prime minister amounts to a deliberate maneuver to render Ousmane Sonko insolvent and place the asset beyond seizure. The case, already postponed once, now requires the civil judge to rule on the merits after the plaintiff’s attorneys file their replies to the defense brief submitted by Sonko’s legal team.
