N’Djamena crackdown: 29 suspects held in sweeping security operations

The National Police of Chad has disclosed the apprehension of 29 individuals suspected of involvement in a range of criminal activities during recent security sweeps in N’Djamena.

Coordinated raids lead to multiple arrests

In a press briefing held on June 2, 2026, Police Director General Mahamat Mahamat Idriss confirmed that joint operations conducted between May 15 and June 1, 2026, resulted in the detention of suspects linked to various offenses. The crackdown involved multiple units, including the Intelligence Cell, Public Security Commissariats, Central Services of General Intelligence and Investigations, and the Ngueli Border Police Post.

Charges span organized crime and property crimes

The suspects face allegations that include:

  • arms trafficking and conspiracy
  • organized criminal association
  • aggravated and simple theft
  • armed robberies
  • vehicle break-ins
  • illegal entry of foreigners into the country

Following standard interrogation procedures, the detainees were categorized into four groups based on the severity and nature of their alleged crimes.

Among the most serious charges are:

  • aggravated robbery and organized crime
  • motorcycle theft in the act
  • theft of electronics, gold, textiles, and metals
  • pickpocketing incidents
  • vehicle burglaries, including some caught red-handed
