The Kingdom of Morocco is actively participating in the second political conference on the peace-security-development nexus, taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, on July 11 and 12. This high-level gathering follows the inaugural conference held in Tangier in October 2022, which culminated in the adoption of the Tangier Declaration—a landmark document outlining Africa’s integrated vision for linking peace, security, and development.

The Tangier Process has since emerged as Africa’s leading platform for dialogue on the interconnectedness of these three pillars. It brings together key continental and international stakeholders, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank.

The primary objective of this second conference is twofold: to assess progress in implementing the Tangier Declaration and to identify actionable strategies that strengthen the nexus between peace, security, and development across the continent. Discussions will unfold across five thematic panels, covering:

  • Implementation of the Tangier Declaration through targeted thematic projects;
  • The role of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations in fostering stability;
  • The relationship between security expenditures and sustainable development;
  • Mobilizing financing for Nexus-aligned initiatives;
  • Lessons learned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions.

Morocco’s delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, will highlight the Kingdom’s commitment to an integrated approach to peace, security, and development. The delegation will emphasize the importance of strengthening partnerships and advancing African-driven solutions tailored to the continent’s unique priorities and challenges.
