Morocco and UK eye doubled trade through 2030 world cup projects
The governments of Morocco and the United Kingdom are setting ambitious goals to double bilateral trade volumes and accelerate joint investments, leveraging the momentum from upcoming mega-projects and the 2030 FIFA World Cup preparations. The announcement came during high-level discussions in Rabat, where Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and UK Minister of State for International Trade Chris Bryant outlined a shared vision for economic growth.
Speaking at the Morocco-UK Business Forum, Bryant led a delegation of British officials and private sector representatives, emphasizing the strategic importance of scaling trade relations. He highlighted the 2030 World Cup as a transformative catalyst, capable of enhancing Morocco’s global appeal, modernizing infrastructure, and creating lasting benefits for future generations.
Mezzour underscored how the World Cup serves as a cornerstone for broader national development, driving upgrades in transportation networks, healthcare systems, and public facilities across the country—not just in host cities. Beyond the tournament itself, he revealed Morocco’s comprehensive eight-year plan to reshape its economic and territorial landscape through large-scale initiatives.
The Moroccan government is actively seeking British expertise to support its public procurement projects and economic transformation agenda, positioning the country as a key player in global value chains. Mezzour stressed a shift from traditional technology transfers toward deeper collaboration rooted in investment, innovation, and enhanced competitiveness.
The two-day forum in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2–3 brought together nearly 50 British enterprises specializing in infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services.
