Maroc Senegal visual storytelling of shared history and partnership

On July 14, the residence of the Moroccan embassy in Dakar hosted the launch of a compelling photographic exhibition titled Morocco–Senegal: a shared history, a common destiny. The event brought together political, diplomatic, and media leaders to celebrate the deep-rooted ties binding the two nations.

The inauguration saw the presence of high-profile figures, including Bakary Sarr, Senegal’s Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, Amadou Tidiane Wone, presidential advisor to the Republic, and Lamine Niang, director-general of Le Soleil newspaper.

bridging decades through visual heritage

The exhibition features an extensive collection of archival photographs, press clippings, and historical documents, predominantly sourced from Le Soleil‘s archives. It traces the evolution of cooperation between Dakar and Rabat, highlighting key milestones in their relationship—rooted in history, politics, culture, and faith.

preserving a legacy for future generations

Morocco’s ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, emphasized the exhibition’s deeper significance. “This showcase is more than a retrospective; it is a reminder of our duty to safeguard and pass on this shared heritage to the next generation. It allows us to revisit the defining moments of an exceptional bond while reflecting on our responsibility to nurture and sustain it,” he stated. “This legacy, entrusted to us by our Sovereigns, former Senegalese Presidents, and all those who contributed to its foundation, must continue to flourish,” he added.

education as a pillar of cooperation

Lamine Niang underscored the exhibition’s role in illustrating the strength of Morocco–Senegal relations. “This partnership demonstrates that genuine African solidarity thrives when built on trust and shared vision beyond mere interests. Today, thousands of Senegalese students pursue higher education in Morocco, while Moroccan students enrich Senegalese universities,” he noted.

The exhibition transcends nostalgia, serving as a living testament to the resilience of ties between the two countries. Both nations are committed to strengthening this cooperation, fostering a forward-looking partnership rooted in shared values and mutual growth.
