Liverpool vs Brentford

In a final attempt to boost his tally of 257 goals for Liverpool, Salah came agonisingly close when his free-kick rattled the crossbar inside the final third.

Yet, his lasting contribution was undeniable: a pinpoint outside-foot cross that Curtis Jones converted with precision just before the hour mark.

Brentford pulled level through Kevin Schade’s close-range header, but the result meant Liverpool secured the fifth spot in the Premier League and a Champions League berth for next season.

Below, we assess every Liverpool player who featured at Anfield, as Salah and Andy Robertson exited the stage after memorable careers in the Merseyside club…

  • Goalkeepers and defenders

    Alisson Becker (6/10):

On what could have been his final appearance at Anfield in a Liverpool shirt, the Brazilian made a crucial save against Schade just before half-time. He was, however, helpless against Brentford’s equaliser.

    Curtis Jones (7/10):

Deployed out of position at right-back, Jones delivered a solid performance. His involvement in Liverpool’s best attacking sequences in the first half peaked with a perfectly timed run to convert Salah’s sublime cross for the opener. Though a Brentford deflection rebounded off his backside before Schade’s goal, Jones’ quality shone through—just as debate swirls over his future at the club this summer.

    Ibrahima Konaté (5/10):

Dominant in the air and precise in his passing, Konaté’s unnecessary yellow card for a clumsy foul marred an otherwise composed display. The timing could not have been worse, coming amid contract talks.

    Virgil van Dijk (6/10):

As commanding as ever, the Dutchman’s performance was marked by frustration—Liverpool yet again failed to keep a clean sheet.

    Andy Robertson (6/10):

Chosen ahead of Kerkez for his final match, the Scot was steady rather than spectacular. He was outmuscled by Schade for the equaliser, though no one anticipated the deflection that led to the goal. Like his close friend Salah, Robertson received a well-earned standing ovation as he left the pitch.

  • Publicité
  • Midfielders

    Ryan Gravenberch (7/10):

One of Liverpool’s most energetic players, he drove forward with purpose in the first half and nearly opened the scoring with a well-struck long-range effort.

    Alexis Mac Allister (5/10):

His work rate was evident, but his lack of end product remained a concern. Frustration boiled over with a reckless tackle on Igor Thiago, earning him a late yellow card.

    Dominik Szoboszlai (7/10):

Ever the mobile presence, he found Gakpo in the box with a brilliant cross that deserved to be converted, before setting up another chance for Wirtz. Reliable rather than outstanding, he remains Liverpool’s top contender for Player of the Season.

  • Forwards

    Mohamed Salah (8/10):

He played with the hunger of someone determined to leave a final mark, and fate denied him when his first-half free-kick cannoned off the crossbar with Kelleher beaten. His cross, leading to Jones’ goal, showcased his mastery and cemented his place as Liverpool’s all-time top assist provider in the Premier League, surpassing Steven Gerrard.

    Cody Gakpo (6/10):

He crafted multiple chances for teammates, including the assist that set up Salah’s cross for Jones. He will rue a glancing header from a Szoboszlai cross that was parried away by a Brentford defender.

    Rio Ngumoha (7/10):

The fearless teenager consistently seized opportunities and came agonisingly close with a curling effort that drifted just wide of the target.

  • Substitutes and manager

    Florian Wirtz (6/10):

Returning in fine form, the German entered the fray just under 20 minutes from time. Though he initially struggled to find his rhythm, Wirtz was denied a last-gasp winner by a brilliant Kelleher save in stoppage time.

    Jeremie Frimpong (5/10):

Replacing Salah on the right wing at the 74th minute, he failed to influence the contest.

    Trey Nyoni (unrated):

Took Gravenberch’s place in midfield for the final ten minutes.

    Milos Kerkez (N/A):

Replaced Robertson at the 83rd minute.

    Joe Gomez (N/A):

Stepped in for Konaté in the dying minutes.

    Arne Slot (5/10):

Resisted the urge to bench Salah amid recent controversies and was rewarded with a crucial assist. Ngumoha also impressed in his final start, but Slot faces a monumental task this summer to address Liverpool’s shaky defence.
