Gabon’s tax authority sets performance targets for new leadership
On June 3, 2026, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met with the newly appointed Director-General of Taxes, Edith Laure Mbiguidi Oyaya, alongside her leadership team and Thierry Minko, Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt Management, and Price Control.
The meeting served as the Director-General’s first official engagement with the Head of State. During the encounter, Edith Laure Mbiguidi Oyaya expressed her appreciation for the appointment and outlined the key priorities of her strategic plan for the tax administration.
The roadmap she presented centers on three core pillars: modernizing institutional structures, broadening the tax base, and enhancing tax collection efficiency. Additionally, the administration aims to strengthen monitoring systems and taxpayer oversight while upholding principles of rigor, integrity, and professionalism.
Digital transformation to curb tax evasion
President Oligui Nguema emphasized the critical role of the General Tax Directorate (DGI) in driving Gabon’s economic transformation. According to the President, boosting domestic revenue is essential to fund infrastructure development and improve public services.
To achieve these goals, the Head of State called for the immediate implementation of a fully integrated digital system. This technological shift is designed to streamline taxpayer procedures, enhance financial transaction transparency, and effectively eliminate tax fraud.
Demanding excellence and measurable results
The Gabonese leader concluded by urging the new leadership to abandon outdated practices and embrace a culture of teamwork, discipline, and transparency. With performance as the guiding principle, the administration is expected to become a driving force in restoring public finances to a sustainable path.
