Gabon government reviews progress of African Development Bank projects
The Gabonese government is stepping up oversight of projects funded by the African Development Bank to speed up their completion. Vice President Hermann Immongault led a working session on Monday, June 29, 2026, with a delegation from the institution headed by Country Representative Mamour Ousmane Ba. Planning Minister Louise Mvono and Agriculture Minister Pacôme Kossy also attended. This meeting follows recent talks between the President and the African Development Bank president on the sidelines of the bank’s annual meetings in Brazzaville, aimed at reviewing project progress and removing barriers to implementation.
Hermann Immongault stressed that the government will now apply tighter oversight to each project in the African Development Bank portfolio. The administration believes that borrowed resources must yield tangible benefits for the population, in line with the National Growth and Development Plan. The vice president underscored the need for transparency, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines, insisting that every stakeholder must fully own their responsibilities to improve the impact of public investments.
An action plan to accelerate projects
With the African Development Bank delegation in Libreville, the government finalized an action plan to push forward projects that have fallen behind schedule. Two initiatives are drawing the most attention: the Integrated Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Programme for Libreville (PIAEPAL) and the Ndendé-Doussala road. On the road project, Hermann Immongault relayed the president’s concerns about the slow pace and called for corrective measures. The government also reviewed its own shortcomings to improve coordination with the financial partner.
For his part, Mamour Ousmane Ba praised the reforms undertaken by Gabonese authorities and reaffirmed the African Development Bank’s commitment to supporting national priorities. He presented the New African Financial Architecture for Development (NAFAD), aimed at boosting investment efficiency across the continent. With a portfolio of major projects in water, vocational training, agriculture, and road infrastructure, the African Development Bank remains dedicated to backing Gabon’s development.
