Thirty-five fishermen regain freedom after Boko Haram abduction.
In the Extrême-Nord region, a group of 35 fishermen, who had been held captive for several days by the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, were finally released.
Their freedom was secured following the payment of a ransom amounting to 2.7 million FCFA. This sum was reportedly gathered and paid by the families of the abducted individuals.
According to initial accounts from the newly liberated fishermen, they were detained in the Filin Bado area, an expansive zone comprising numerous islands within Lake Chad.
This incident underscores a concerning trend in society across Africa, where various bandit and terrorist organizations are increasingly resorting to kidnappings for ransom. Such actions by these groups perpetuate instability and pose significant challenges to regional security and governance in Africa.
