Côte d’Ivoire: Ouragahio Mairie Honors Women’s Empowerment Through Community Development

Gagnoa, July 6, 2026 (AIP) – The Ouragahio municipality has conducted an evaluation of its women’s empowerment policy as part of the ‘Fête des Mères’ ceremony, which honored mothers from the commune.

The actions focused on literacy training, basic accounting skills for female traders, healthcare services for mothers and children, and community outreach. Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley stated that the goal is to ensure maternal health, enabling them to participate in community development projects.

At the commercial level, Dacoury-Tabley announced the launch of a gastronomic space featuring several shops offering a platform for these women to showcase their culinary skills and earn income. The ambition is for them to live off their earnings.

The empowerment initiative also includes agricultural projects, where support for women in the fields is provided through labor and resource allocation.

Mayor Dacoury-Tabley further explained that he has opened school canteens in every school, which are supplied by ‘valiant women’ who produce and transform food products consumed in the canteens. The municipality has also facilitated business opportunities for women by reducing taxes.

During the meeting, Mayor Dacoury-Tabley distributed gifts to 611 mothers from various quarters and villages in Ouragahio. He emphasized that collective reflection, teamwork, and efficiency are reinforced through these gatherings.
