Arsenal’s star Gabriel Martinelli may force summer exit after Premier League glory
Potential title triumph could trigger a surprising departure in North London
With Arsenal closing in on their first Premier League title since 2004, the celebrations may be short-lived for one of the club’s most loyal servants. According to former Gunners defender Mikaël Silvestre, Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli could be weighing up a summer transfer if the Emirates faithful finally lift the trophy.
The 22-cap international, who has made nearly 300 appearances for the club since his 2019 debut, has seen his playing time significantly reduced this season. Having started just ten Premier League matches, Martinelli’s future at the club could hang in the balance if Mikel Arteta’s side secure the championship.
Why Martinelli could seek a new challenge
Silvestre, speaking on the matter, highlighted Martinelli’s international standing and desire to play regularly as key factors in a potential exit. With Leandro Trossard currently favored ahead of Martinelli in Arteta’s attacking plans, the Brazilian’s frustration could push him toward a new environment.
« Gabriel Martinelli will likely push for a transfer if he continues to see limited game time, » Silvestre explained. « He’s an established international who wants to play every week. Trossard is currently ahead of him, so he may look elsewhere. Winning the league would make it the perfect time to leave, but Arsenal would need to find a replacement first. »
Potential replacements emerge
As Arsenal prepare for a busy summer transfer window, reports suggest the club has set its sights on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. The young Frenchman, though still developing, could offer a dynamic alternative if Martinelli departs, according to Silvestre.
« Barcola has immense potential, » Silvestre noted. « He’s already strong in duels, creates space, and delivers key passes, though he still needs to refine his finishing. If he improves that aspect, he could become a complete player. Right now, he’s not a guaranteed starter in the Champions League, but he’s already a handful to defend against. »
The Gunners’ potential title win could mark the end of an era for Martinelli, but it may also signal the beginning of a new chapter for the club in the transfer market.
