Andrew Nkea Fuanya’s Vatican role praised by Akere Muna
Pope Leo XIV appoints Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya to the Dicastery for Evangelisation’s section for first evangelisation and new particular churches. Akere Muna welcomes the move.
Pope Leo XIV has promoted Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya. The prelate now serves as a member of the Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelisation. His responsibilities include assisting the Holy See in nurturing young churches and guiding global missionary efforts.
This appointment drew praise from Akere Muna, a prominent Cameroonian civil society figure and lawyer. He described the nomination as a deep recognition of the archbishop’s pastoral wisdom, tireless service, and unwavering dedication to the Church. Muna also called it a powerful testament to the light Nkea continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.
“I am convinced that in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and paternal compassion that have marked his ministry over the years,” Muna wrote. Archbishop Andrew Nkea was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda in 2019. He was elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on April 30, 2022. He has been a leading figure in dialogue for peace in Cameroon’s crisis-hit regions.
