Algerian Prime Minister wraps up Niger visit after power plant inauguration

The Algerian Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, concluded his official visit to Niger on Wednesday, marking the end of a three-day trip focused on strengthening bilateral ties and energy cooperation.

The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the 40-megawatt Algerian-Nigerien Solidarity Power Plant in Niamey, a flagship project symbolizing the deep bonds of cooperation between the two nations. The plant was gifted by Algeria as part of its commitment to supporting Niger’s energy infrastructure development.

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb co-chaired the inauguration ceremony alongside Niger’s Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the project. The plant is expected to significantly boost electricity supply in Niger, addressing critical energy shortages in the capital and surrounding regions.

High-level meetings and diplomatic exchanges

Following the inauguration, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb was received by Niger’s Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani. During the meeting, he conveyed the warm greetings of Algeria’s President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to deepening fraternal relations, solidarity, and cooperation with Niger.

The visit also included discussions on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including trade, security, and regional stability. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing projects and explored avenues for future collaboration.

Warm farewell at Niamey International Airport

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb was given a ceremonial send-off at Niamey International Airport by Niger’s Prime Minister and Algeria’s Ambassador to Niger, Mr. Ahmed Saadi. The event marked the conclusion of a productive visit aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between Algeria and Niger.
