Willy mengue calls on equinoxe tv for balanced coverage after mamadou mota interview
Willy Mengue, a leading voice in the opposition to Maurice Kamto’s return as president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), has formally requested that Equinoxe Television provide balanced coverage of the issue.
The call for balanced reporting follows the appearance of vice-president Mamadou Mota on the program “La vérité en face” on Sunday evening. Mengue argues that the coverage has been one-sided regarding their political party.
According to Mengue, this step is essential for “fairness in information treatment,” “the pursuit of journalistic truth,” and “the right to information.”
In an open letter addressed to Equinoxe TV’s CEO, Mengue wrote: “If a direct debate between the two factions cannot be organized immediately, then at least a substantial right of reply should be granted on the same program ‘La vérité en face’ that aired the controversial return of Professor Maurice Kamto to the head of the MRC. You gave a platform to my political friend Mamadou Mota on this critical subject; the search for truth demands that you offer the same opportunity to the protesters, whom I represent.”
On Sunday evening, Mamadou Mota defended Kamto’s return to the MRC presidency. Mengue, however, formally contests this, describing it as a “fraudulent return.”
Mengue added: “Equinoxe TV is known as ‘the people’s channel that reports beyond the image.’ Your reporting on the manipulation of the MRC’s founding texts to facilitate the fraudulent return of a former party leader will only be fair and equitable if this legitimate right of reply is granted. The Cameroonian people are watching your handling of this matter.”
