Urgent repairs underway at Hilton's flood outlet in N'Djamena

The mayor of N’Djamena, Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, accompanied by a technical team, inspected the flood outlet site near the Hilton Hotel on May 28, 2026. This critical infrastructure, designed to redirect river floodwaters away from the city, has sustained minor damage.

Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for N’Djamena, explained that the outlet plays a dual role: channeling rainwater toward the Chari River during downpours while preventing river overflow from flooding the capital. He confirmed that the floodgate, currently compromised, is essential for the city’s drainage system.

With the rainy season approaching, authorities have already initiated preparatory measures. However, the mayor directed the roadworks department to prioritize urgent repairs to the floodgate within the coming days to avoid potential flooding risks.
